AWAY LUGGAGE Carry On, Bigger Carry On & Large REVIEW
Hi Travelers! Today I am thrilled to showcase my new My Away Luggage Collection. I can’t even tell you how completely obsessed I am with each and every piece! I’ve never indulged on premium hard case luggage before, and now I don’t think I could ever go back. I’m already figuring out which colors to pick out for Jeremy’s set! Below are some of my favorite features along with technical info on each piece. I really hope you find this post helpful, so please feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions. ALSO I created a Travel Capsule Wardrobe video where I show you how to create a FULL month of looks in just the bigger carry-on here. Lastly, huge thank you to my good friend Adrienne Y for these beautiful photos!
anddddd AWAY we GO!
MY COLLECTION: The (regular & smaller sized) Carry-On in Sand // The Bigger Carry-On in Clay (limited edition Rashida Jones collection) // The Large in Black
Alright, guys, quick backstory – I have always had a hodgepodge of different hand-me-down luggages my entire life. I’ve traveled to over 27 different countries, and I can’t tell you how exhausting it is to deal with broken down luggage holding you down. The countless broken wheels… the ripped seams… the open holes… the sticky zippers…. The only other luggage that I’ve purchased personally was one set of wheeled duffle shaped luggage that has been used and abused beyond recognition. I still enjoyed the experience of free formed duffle shaped luggage, but my biggest issue was 1) I couldn’t maneuver or pivot directions on a dime due to the 2 wheels, 2) my luggage would always topple over and hit me in the leg, 3) I couldn’t balance a purse on the top without it falling over, 4) it was hard to see everything in the duffle in one shot because things fall to the bottom, 5) my arm grew fatigued from pulling the weight of the bag after long walks and 6) my arm would TWIST OFF when I hit a curb and my luggage spun like an alligator into a bayou.
OK, YOU GET IT.
When I first saw the Away launch, I was immediately intrigued. The luggage is obviously so gorgeous, and (being a Millennial) I fell in love with the story and direct-to-customer mission of the brand. After waiting it out and reading hundreds of 5 star reviews, I had to go all in. My luggage was ready to be upgraded and it was time to try something new. Fortunately, my uncle had a set that I could physically examine in person, and YES it was just as beautiful in person! Matte! Sexy! Sleek! Charging! Smooth Ridin’! Organizational Sections! Ah Yas, Queen! Everything about this luggage exudes easy luxury and for the first time I feel baller rolling through the airport. Even when I was shooting this post with Adrienne, I was rolling ALL OVER the bumpy SF streets with absolute ease. The outer shell is beautiful and super durable, the inside is so carefully designed, the carry-on chargers are so helpful on-the-go and the wheels are so LEGIT. Traveling should be spend enjoying every moment, so why not enjoy the process of getting there too.
The Rashida Jones edition features a brand new Away item, The Stockholm Tote. It’s a lightweight, water-resistant nylon traveler’s companion that houses all of your necessities – mag, wallet, cosmetics, notebook, devices and a light cardi. The tote has a zip top, an exterior pocket, interior laptop sleeve, two interior snap pockets, and a removable zippered pouch that fits a plus size iPhone. I especially dig the outer side strap that you can slide on top of the Carry-On handles so that it stays secure on the flat top surface. I have had so many totes fall off the top of my roller luggage, so I love that this duo stays put. To be fair, I’m not used to hard case luggage, so the flat top in general will serve as a nice table for my big ol’ tote bags.
I still cannot believe the amount of stuff you can squeeze in here! I have been so hesitant on hard luggage because I thought you couldn’t hit anything, but that is definitely not the case. The Rashida Jones 4-pack packing cubes are great for easy (and matching!) organization, and you can pull and drop these cubes into your hotel dresser when you land. If you don’t have the cubes, no sweat. The actual luggage itself is built for organization. On one side, you get an aerated mesh barrier for harder items and shoes and the other is great for folded clothes. There is a thin, pocketed panel that straps down and acts like a compression shield to condense your clothing down AND you also get a nylon laundry back that tucks neatly in the side of the luggage. I just love organizing my items and tucking them neatly into all of the crevices. Packing is like therapeutic now HAHA!
Here is a nice side by side size comparison. I know a lot of people (including myself) have a hard time debating between the Carry-On and Bigger Carry-On, so I wanted to show you the difference! Below are the specific dimensions OR you can check out their comparison chart here.

Looking chic at lunch {Media Noche in San Francisco}.
PS. I know I’m doing a 2 wheel tilt in these photos, but you can actually walk with the luggage standing upright. The four wheels on the bottom support the weight of the bag really well and it relieves the strain from your arms. The ride is so good I was actually able to put the Large and Bigger Carry-On (fully packed) back to back and use one hand to grip both handles and walk down the bumpy street without them tipping over. If you are alone and packed a lot, it’s great to know that you can handle your stuff without help.
Charging is so easy with the built in battery. No more juggling my external battery in my hands while I try to text and use my phone. There is one slot for regular paced charging and the second slot for quicker speed if you are running short on time. There are indicator lights to show you how much charge is left. I love that I can charge my cell and my iPad at the same time!! One last thing to note is that the Bigger Carry-On battery quickly pops out so you can separate it from the baggage and charge it near your outlet VS the regular, smaller Carry-On that has the battery flush in the bag under the flap. Either way, you can always remove both batteries with the included screwdriver keychain if you encounter difficulties at security. How slick they added the screwdriver for you? I will definitely be keeping mine handy in the side pocket in case I run into a jam.
HUGE THANK YOU to Away for gifting the Rashida Jones Clay Carry-On, tote, cubes and Large luggage to me. All opinions expressed in this post and my YouTube channel video are all my personal, honest opinions. I hope these posts are helpful to any future Away buyers out there. I only reach out to a handful of companies because I am a firm believer in only promoting things I’m crazy about…. and this is one of them.
